GridMAX Frequently Asked Questions

What lengths do the GridMAX components come in?

The GridMAX components include 2-foot tee covers, 4-foot tee covers, 4-foot main covers, and 4-foot wall angle covers. If you purchase GridMAX in a Kit format from either Home Depot or Lowe’s, your kit will only include 2-foot tees, not 4-foot tees. A GridMAX kit can be used on a 2×4 ceiling. Please see the GridMAX installation guide for instructions.

What can I use to cut GridMAX components?

During the installation of GridMAX, you may need to cut pieces to fit your particular ceiling. GridMAX can be cut with a tin snips fairly easily.

Do I need to remove the tiles to install GridMAX?

The tiles you have currently installed do not need to be removed to install GridMAX. Simply snap the component over the grid, pushing the tile up into the ceiling if needed.

What sizes is GridMAX available in?

GridMAX is available in 15/16-inch and 1-inch. It is very important that you measure the width of your grid in numerous places before you order GridMAX.

I’m having a hard time snapping my GridMAX components on to my grid. What do I need to do?

If you are having a hard time snapping on GridMAX, you may want to make sure you’ve ordered the correct width GridMAX, to fit over your grid. Possible grid widths include 15/16-inch and 1-inch. GridMAX is available in both sizes. You may also want to check the grid for paint. This could be another cause to your problem. If the paint was sprayed on, you should have no problem snapping the GridMAX covers on. If the painted was rolled onto the grid, it may be too thick and prevent the covers from snapping on easily. If you currently have 15/16-inch grid and it has been painted using a roller and cannot get the 15/16-inch covers to snap over, you may want to consider trying 1-inch grid covers. If you have any doubt on what size to order, it is recommended to call and have a sample sent to you before you place your order.

Can GridMAX be used on any type of grid ceiling?

GridMAX can be used on most metal suspended grid systems, however the type of tile you have in that grid may not allow for GridMAX. For example, some types of revealed tile (tile that has a 1/4-inch lip around the edge) may not lie in the grid correctly once the GridMAX is snapped on the grid. Most 1” and 15/16” ceiling grids work well with GridMAX.

Can GridMAX be used on different tile styles?

The following diagram shows which styles of tile can and cannot be used with GridMAX.

Can GridMAX be used outdoors?

Yes. We recommend using solid colors or our Argent finishes in an outdoor application. Foil-faced finishes are not recommended for outdoor use as corrosion from salts can occur. Please contact us info@acpideas.com for more information about appropriate finishes for outdoor use.
